Often when we’re in conversation and someone asks us what we do for a living and we say “I’m a Media Buyer” the response tends to be a blank face, followed quickly with… “Huh? What’s that?”

So for anyone who doesn’t know, or anyone who thinks they know but isn’t sure, or even for those who do know but want a refresher we thought it was the perfect blog topic.

So what is Media Buying?

For those who love a definition Wikipedia tells us that Media Buying is a sub function of advertising management… the procurement of media real estate at optimal placement and price. The main task of media buying lies within the negotiation of price and placement to ensure the best possible value can be secured.

Well wasn’t that a mouthful? From our point of view, media buying is finding the right medium, negotiating a great rate and putting your product marketing in the perfect place so that a large number of the right people can see it. Simple right! Well not necessarily.
